1. Do I keep the rights to my book?
Absolutely. At Foy & Lewis, we are a bespoke service provider, not a traditional publisher. You retain 100% of the copyright and all rights to your work. Our role is to provide the professional expertise to bring your vision to life.
2. Can I mix and match services from different packages?
Yes. While our packages are designed to cover the most common needs, we pride ourselves on being bespoke. If you need a specific combination – such as the Editorial Pathway followed by a full Production Package – we can create a tailored proposal for you.
3. Do the investment guides include printing costs?
No. Because paper quality, book size and print quantities vary so much between projects, we quote printing costs separately and “at cost” (i.e. we don’t make money from them). This ensures total transparency, so you know exactly where your investment is going.
4. How long does the process usually take?
Timelines vary depending on the service. A manuscript assessment (Package 1) usually takes 2–4 weeks, while Full Publishing Management (Package 4) typically takes 4–6 months from manuscript to finished book. We provide a detailed schedule at the start of every project.
5. Do you handle book distribution and sales?
Our core expertise is in production and project management. While we offer warehousing and logistics support as an add-on, we do not act as a distributor or sales agent. We can, however, provide advice on the best platforms and routes to market for your specific genre.
6. Why do you use UK English conventions?
Foy & Lewis is a UK-based company, and we specialise in the nuances of British English (spelling, grammar and punctuation). This is particularly important for authors looking to establish themselves in the UK and Commonwealth markets.
7. What format should my manuscript be in?
For most editorial and production services, we require your manuscript as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx). This allows us to use “Tracked Changes” so you can see every edit we make.
